Alpha and Omega
For Rudolf Buchbinder, Beethoven is the beginning and the end. The acclaimed Austrian pianist, who turns 80 this year, speaks of his "Alpha and Omega" and it is therefore no surprise that he has been recognised for decades as one of the finest performers of Beethoven’s music. Reviews praise the "epic artistic power" of his playing. His fascinating blend of masterful self-confidence and respect for the maestro’s music enable him to question traditional approaches and calmly deliver a different Beethoven to the one we might expect. Countless recordings are testimony to his unrivalled position. Buchbinder never becomes tired of playing Beethoven and says that for him, the music always remains fresh with endless new depths to explore. As a mark of his profound respect, he is celebrating the composer’s anniversary year in 2027 with a programme of Beethoven sonatas.
